Avoid over compacting, reduce costs
In 1993 Tieto-Oskari Oy developed the first compaction measurement device for vibration rollers. The development work was implemented together with Tielaitos (the National Board of Public Roads) by comparing the results with e.g. for drop loss tests.
RMC compares the compacting energy to the rebound energy, and calculates the compacting factor during the work process. The system informs the operator about the density of the compacted layer and helps to avoid overcompacting.
Overcompacting the base can weaken the load rating. After that, several new compacting cycles are required in order to get the load rating back to desired level. With RMC measuring device the over compacting can be avoided and better quality achieved with lower costs.
